Maine Defeats UVM Women's Hockey 4-1 With Third Period Surge

Loss drops Vermont to 4-17-6 and 3-11-2 in Hockey East

ORONO, Maine – Tori Pasquariello scored two goals as Maine came from behind Saturday afternoon scoring four goals in third period to defeat Vermont 4-1 in Hockey East action at Alfond Arena.
 
Emily Walsh opened the scoring 5:04 into the first period with her fourth goal of the season. Chelsea Rapin picked up her seventh assist of the season on the play. In conference this season Vermont entered the day 1-1-1 when they scored first.
 
Vermont took its one-goal lead into the third period after being outshot 21-11 through the first forty minutes.
 
Pasquariello scored 1:08 into the third period and again at the 11:40 mark to give the Black Bears the lead. Brianne Kilgour assisted on both Pasquariello goals. Pasquariello leads all freshmen on the team with 11 goals.
 
The Black Bears extended their lead on the power play with 2:05 left in the third period. Brittany Dougherty scored her team leading 14th goal of the season to give Maine a two-goal cushion. Danielle Ward added an empty-net goal in the last minute, her 13th of the season.
 
Brittany Ott made 18 saves earning her tenth win of the season. Roxanne Douville made 30 saves for Vermont.
 
The win moves Maine to 11-15-3 overall and 5-16-6 in Hockey East play. The loss drops Vermont to 4-17-6 and 3-11-2 in league play. The Catamounts still trail New Hampshire by two points for the final Hockey East playoff spot.
